I didn’t think I would care that much about having a nice water bottle.
A water bottle is a water bottle, right?
But after using my Stanley for over three years, I actually understand the obsession. I drink more water when I have it with me, partly because it keeps my water really cold or really hot, but also because I genuinely like using it.
It’s usually sitting on my desk while I’m working, beside me when I’m watching something, or coming with me when I leave the house. At some point, drinking water stopped feeling like something I had to remember to do and became something I naturally did throughout the day.
And honestly, if you’re going to have something beside you all day, you might as well like it.

The biggest reason I like it
The thing I notice most is how cold my water stays, but I also love how much water I can bring with me at once. I really like cold water, so I’ll fill my Stanley up in the morning, add ice, and then come back to it hours later and still have cold water waiting for me. On the other hand, when fill it with hot water it stays hot for hours. I also don’t have to constantly refill it.
That’s probably one of the most underrated things about having a larger water bottle. I can fill it up once and have enough water beside me for a good part of the day instead of finishing a small bottle and having to get up and refill it over and over again.
That makes a bigger difference than you’d think, especially when I’m working or I’m busy. If I have to keep stopping what I’m doing to get more water, it’s easy to forget about it. When I have a full Stanley beside me, I can just keep drinking throughout the day.
Before I had a large water bottle that I actually liked using, I would sometimes get busy and realize I’d barely had anything to drink. I’d make myself a drink, get distracted, and forget about it. Now I usually have my Stanley sitting right beside me, so it’s almost impossible not to notice it.
I’ve realized that I don’t necessarily need more discipline to drink water. I need to make drinking water easy and a habit.
Why I think it’s especially good for University and College
If you’re heading to university or college or moving into a dorm, I would put a good water bottle on your list.
You’re going to spend a lot of time away from your room. You’ll be walking to class, studying, going to the library, going to the gym, meeting friends, and probably spending more time on campus than you expect.
Having a big bottle of water with you means you don’t have to keep buying drinks or looking for somewhere to refill your water every couple of hours.
And if you’re putting together a cute dorm room, I actually think the Stanley fits into that whole lifestyle pretty naturally. It’s one of those things that can sit on your desk or nightstand and become part of your everyday routine.
It’s practical, but it doesn’t have to look purely practical.
It’s not just for summer
I mostly think of my Stanley as my water bottle, but I also like that it can be used for hot drinks.
That makes it something I can use year-round rather than something that only makes sense during the summer.
My favorite part is actually the habit
I’ve been thinking more about how much our surroundings affect our habits. We tend to think that if we want to drink more water, exercise more, eat better, or become more organized, we just need to have enough discipline.
But your environment matters too. If your water bottle is buried in a cabinet, you’re less likely to use it. If it’s sitting beside you and you actually enjoy drinking from it, you’re more likely to reach for it.
That’s why I think a water bottle like this can be useful. Not because the water bottle itself is going to change your life, but because it can make a habit you already want easier to maintain.
For me, having cold water beside me throughout the day does exactly that. And I’ve been using it every day ever since.
Making water part of your morning
This is where I think hydration can become a little more intentional.
Instead of waking up, immediately grabbing your phone, and rushing into the day, you could fill your water bottle, sit for a few minutes, and think about how you want to feel that day.
I’ve personally always liked the idea of attaching intention to ordinary things.
Some people pray over their water. Some meditate. Some use affirmations or simply think about what they’re grateful for.
There are also spiritual ideas around “charging” water with positive thoughts or energy. I wouldn’t present that as a scientifically proven fact, but I do think there can be something meaningful about the ritual itself.
If you fill your water and take a moment to think, I want to feel clear, energized and grounded today, you’re starting your morning with intention rather than immediately reacting to everything around you.
And then you actually drink the water.
Is the Stanley actually worth it?
For me, yes. I’ve been using mine every day for over three years, and I still reach for it constantly.
You definitely don’t need a Stanley to drink water. There are plenty of less expensive water bottles that work perfectly well.
But I think there’s value in finding something you genuinely enjoy using. If having cold water beside you makes you drink more of it, and you end up taking your bottle everywhere because you like it, then it’s serving a purpose beyond just holding water. For me, that’s what makes it worth it.
It’s become one of those small things in my daily routine that I don’t really think about anymore. I fill it up, bring it with me, and drink from it throughout the day.
And if you’re starting university or college, moving into a dorm, going back to school, going to work, or simply trying to get better about drinking water, it’s an easy addition to your routine.
